Dear Abby,

Why am I weird?

I'm not usually one to rant or be negative. I hardly have time for it in my disgustingly sugar coated life, but over the last couple of days I've seen some of my friends posting about negativity towards cosplayers and "loved ones" who are into gaming and cosplay.

So, I ask this......Why am I weird? Wait, let's back up. What IS weird?

"Weird" has been used to alienate certain people by calling them pariah's or peculiar. I beg to differ.
For those who believe WE are the weird ones, when did you stop wanting to reach for the stars? When did you decide that you just had to leave Never neverland and enter the boring black and white world of June and Ward Cleaver?

I'm an responsible individual. I went to college. I have a stable, professional full time job along with other contracted works. I don't do drugs. I don't drink often. My driving record is clean. 

No, I don't get shitfaced while watching the game or go out to the bar on Friday's and Saturday nights. (This seems to be perfectly acceptable behavior in our society though.)

I take an idea, something that not only makes me happy, but others, and I bring it to life.

Let me ask you something, when was the last time you decided to be totally silly to bring joy to a childs' life? When was the last time you decided to visit a terminally ill patient in the hospital just to see them light up in appreciation and disbelief? Does your "hobby" benefit non-profit organizations?

So, whose the "weird" one here?

Well, maybe I am weird. According to the definition weird also means "A person's destiny."

Yes, I'm destined to make people happy, or die trying. Yes, I will ALWAYS be creative and not take life too seriously. Why would anyone want to? It's too short for that. Yes, I want to spend time with positive, fun loving people like myself who have honest and good intentions in life and breed creativity. This is MY destiny.

So, if someone calls you weird for being a cosplayer......Thank them.

We're pretty fucking cool.
